The flag of Ecuador was adopted on September 26, 1860, but the coat of arms wasn’t added until 1900 for official state use. The symbolism of the elements of the coat of arms are: the condor represents power and courage, the landscape is of Chimborazo and the Guayas River, the boat with a caduceus as the mast represents accord and trade, the golden sun represents pre-columbian traditions, the zodiac signs represent he Marcist Revolution, and the palm and laurel leaves represent peace and dignity.
